A while back I travelled to Nagambie (country Victoria) for a family session, and I asked Kath to think about what defined them as a couple, and then all of them as a family unit. What locations could we shoot in that would have meaning and impact for them?
Kath provided a fantastic brief which included — a) they met at the Speedway (a love for all of them), b) Alan has been a volunteer with the CFA since he was a teen, and the boys love being down at the Station, c) their wedding photos were taken at Tahbilk Winery (where Alan also worked for many years), so shooting there would feel like an extension of their wedding day.
The beauty of a small country town is close proximity to everything and no traffic – so we were able to drive around, incorporate everything and have lots of fun in the process :)
Kath and Alan and their two boys are special and adorable. Simply… just beautiful people. x
These two were squishy snuggle bums. A little brother smothered with sisterly love. x
Little Dot is her official nickname – and she was such a dream to photograph. Man, I just love babies. x
I should doing my 10 on 10 photos today but have decided it’s probably not the project for me. The idea is great – I just find it invariably gets around to the 10th and… it doesn’t happen naturally. I feel hemmed in with “have-to’s”, so like many other projects before it, this one too is being dropped ;)
I do have some photos of Imogen however, as our world has revolved around her the last few weeks since “the fall”. It’s never the phone call you want to receive when driving home from a session. Dave: “The school has called, Imi’s taken a bad fall, they’re worried about her teeth.”
Which brought us to an overnight stay at RCH with our incredibly brave babelet, surgery to remove three teeth and reset fractured bone surrounding the teeth. Tooth Fairy apparently works very closely with dental surgeons, and she kindly delivered $15 – I guess she figured three teeth taken in such circumstances deserved a good payout. On a side note, RCH Melbourne – AWESOME. Such an incredible facility for those parents and children that sadly need to spend more time in there than our overnight stay.
A few photos of Ims in the week leading up to the fall, with just one showing her teeth.
And her little gummy smile. “Mum, do I look like a vampire now?” No honey, not at all… ;) x
I love these guys. Mega chilled – gorge parents and people. Kristie had no ‘must-haves’ for her session and just wanted me to photograph whatever I could. I found I was photographing them all as I would my own kids, and I loved that. x
Here are some of my favourites, including this one — their huge wall canvas!
